Growing Brains, Planning Pains

I often find myself at a loss when it comes to self-promotion. If I had things my way, I would write my stories and leave them as little booklets at bus stops, authored by Anon E. Mouse, so that weary travelers could enjoy them for a time, then pass them along to someone else. Alas, there is a complication, and its name is money. Money for paper, for ink, for staples, but mostly money for the food that powers the mind behind the stories

Pewter Dragon Productions had been in my back pocket as I was wrestling with job changes, moving, and all the complications of friendship and family. This year I made a commitment to make something of it, come what may. My dream is that someday this website will not only feature my writing and art, but serve as some kind of co-op for creators from all walks of life.

I love learning, but more importantly I love sharing what I learned. Having found great joy in the education sector, I not only found an outlet for my maternal instinct, but an amazing excuse to create works for my students and others. I have already uploaded a number of items I originally created as a TA at a Montessori preschool.

That dream of books freely given is still close to my heart, and as such I never want to put my childrens’ material behind a paywall. There are lessons to be taught I think the next generation will absolutely need. Too many of my generation have grown up learning lessons the hard way, sometimes far too late, myself included.

Once I have novels ready, they will be a source of income in the form of pay-per-download, but the stuff for littles will remain free under a creative commons license. So if you think this is a good thing, do me a solid and share the things you like with your friends. In this attention-based economy, every eyeball counts.

Also, question… what would YOU pay for a debut novel in digital format? I’d love your feedback.

Thank you, and take care.
